Owais Shah on the field in England colours

Leadership & performance · led by Owais Shah

Elite mindset. From the field to the floor.

A leadership programme that takes what it takes to perform at the top of international sport—composure under pressure, resilience after rejection, standards that hold all season—and puts it to work in your hotel, your kitchen and your front of house.

For hotel leadership teams, F&B and front-of-house, and rising managers.

Who leads it

Someone who has actually performed under the lights.

Owais Shah played 94 times for England across all three formats and captained his country to a Under-19 World Cup title before a twenty-year professional career. He has since coached at international level and now leads Tara's people and leadership practice as Managing Partner.

Elite Mindset is not motivation borrowed from a textbook. It is a first-hand account of being dropped, doubted and forced to rebuild—translated, in the room, into the exact pressures a hospitality team carries on its busiest, hardest days.

What it develops

Six habits of elite performers.

The same attributes that decide a career in international sport decide whether a service, a shift and a season hold together. Each is taught as a habit a team can practise—not a slogan.

An elite standard

Elite is not a good night—it is the same standard on the 300th cover as the first. Teams learn what 'their best, repeatable' actually looks like and how to hold it.

Dealing with rejection

A complaint, a bad review, a lost booking. Setbacks are treated as fuel and information, not verdicts—the habit that separates a career from a season.

Leadership

Leading from the front when the pass is backed up and the lobby is full. Presence, decisions and composure that a team can borrow under pressure.

Man management

Getting the best from very different people—reading who needs the arm around the shoulder and who needs the challenge, shift after shift.

Handling pressure

Full house, VIP in the room, a supplier no-show. The routines elite performers use to slow the moment down and execute when it matters most.

Sustaining performance

Anyone can lift for one service. The programme is built around consistency across a long season—protecting standards, energy and people over time.

The signature keynote

From rejection to success.

A snapshot of Owais's keynote as delivered—his own journey from the streets of Karachi to the England side and back from being dropped. Each chapter is told from the field, then worked into the hospitality parallel with the team in the room.

“Rejection is part of the journey. It should sharpen the goal—never end it.”

  1. 01

    Early beginnings

On the fieldFrom the streets of Karachi to the England Test side.

On the floorWhere talent starts is not where it lands. Ambition and standards are built, not inherited—on a field or on a floor.

  2. 02

    Dedication & sacrifice

On the field“Eat, sleep, drink cricket, repeat.” A professional contract at 15; England A at 17.

On the floorThe unglamorous, repeated work behind an effortless-looking service. What real commitment to a craft asks of a person.

  3. 03

    Rejection breeds obsession

On the fieldDropped from the side—and letting the rejection sharpen the ambition rather than end it.

On the floorThe bad review, the missed promotion, the guest who is never happy. How to metabolise rejection into obsession with getting better.

  4. 04

    The power of focus

On the fieldRediscovering focus and determination to force a way back into the team.

On the floorCutting the noise on a chaotic shift and executing the one thing in front of you—the discipline of attention under load.

  5. 05

    Getting up after disappointment

On the fieldBouncing back from setbacks to return to the team stronger than before.

On the floorThe night that went wrong, the season that underdelivered. Recovering fast, learning honestly, and coming back better.

  6. 06

    Experimentation & adaptation

On the fieldThe spirit of experimentation—adapting to changing conditions to stay at the top.

On the floorGuest expectations move; so must the team. Staying curious and adaptable is how standards survive a changing market.

What a team leaves with

  1. 01An elite mindset is a choice and a habit—it is trainable, not a personality you are born with.

  3. 03Focus, determination and resilience are what carry a team through the setbacks that decide a season.
